Splitting Pairs in BlackJack Rules
Here are five simple rules to remember when you’re dealt a pair and the game allows you complete freedom for splitting them.
- Always split aces and eights when you’re dealt them. It doesn’t matter what the dealer may be showing as his up card, it’s always the right play to split these pairs.
- Never split fours, fives, or tens. It makes no difference what the dealer may be showing at the time, splitting fours, fives, or tens will not be a profitable play over time.
- Split twos, threes, or sevens when the dealer is showing a card that’s a two through seven. If the dealer has an eight or bigger showing, take a hit and get another card.
- Split a pair of sixes when the dealer is showing a card that’s a two through six. If the dealer has a card showing that’s a seven or more, take a hit for another card.
- You can split a pair of nines against the following dealer up-cards: 2-6, 8-9. If the dealer is showing a seven, ten, or ace you can stand.
If you follow those basic rules every time you’re dealt a pair you’ll increase your chances of winning some money. The house still has an edge over you. It will be reduced by increasing your overall odds through proper pair splitting.
Re Splitting
There is also the option to re Splitting Pairs in BlackJack. Only if you’re lucky enough to get dealt another one of the pair you’ve already split.
